Ethan Conrad was sent to Indiana to run the latest hotel his father had opened. It was a punishment for a scandal he caused at home. Marcus Devereaux was a victim of Katrina. The storm had destroyed everything he knew. Ethan hired Marcus to build an addition to his home and had fallen for him almost immediately. Marcus's shy demeanor, sexy body and sultry accent had captured Ethan making him want to know him better, but Ethan couldn’t get the man to talk to him. Could Ethan be the one to awaken the heart of a man that has had everything taken from him? Or would the wall Marcus had around his heart be too much for Ethan to tear down?

AFTER THE STORM is a beautiful story penned by a ‘new to me’ author, Jaxx Steele. This is a warm-hearted story filled with sadness, as well as great determination and the will to have it all. Ethan’s no wilting wallflower. He sees Marcus and knows immediately that he wants him. He’s not prepared to accept 'no' or any other excuses. Ethan takes Marcus in hand and decides to show him that he will be there for him. Marcus, who's hurt, bruised and unwilling to try at life and love again, skirts around his attraction to Ethan, but when he is backed into a corner he has no choice but to accept love again. I loved this book. It's filled with lots of emotionally charged scenes and at a pace that keeps the reader wanting more and praying that the end never to come. Jaxx Steele is definitely one to watch.

Ethan’s forthright approach to life has earned him his fair share of ups and downs. A glimpse of Marcus straight out of the pool charges his desires and sets him on course to meet the love of his life. I loved Mr. Steele’s storytelling. He keeps the reader involved with a fast-paced story and characters that we can relate to. I rooted for Marcus to overcome his shyness and fear of commitment in order to love Ethan. His fears are the same as everyone, we want to be loved, but we also want that love to last forever. When it doesn’t, we feel the same type of heartbreak. I enjoyed watching the relationship develop between the two men and sighed with contentedness when the story concluded.
If you like a sensual story with two heroes, then pick up a copy of After the Storm. I give this story 4 ½ cherries. Awesome!
You Gotta Read Reviews
I began this story with great hope for an interracial love story that packed a punch. While the background laid a great premise, Marcus’ unwillingness to allow others into his life was a little unbelievable. When you lose someone, you tend to cling more to what you have or try to regain what you lost in a desperate attempt to still feel alive. That someone would go to such lengths to distance himself just was not credible to me. Ethan is persistent when initially rebuffed by Marcus, and that ultimately leads to the rest of the relationship. I think it also was a little far-fetched that Marcus would promise Ethan a forever romance after only knowing each other such a short time. That being said, the dialogue between the characters and love scenes were nicely written and steered the balance of the story to a fitting end. This book is a good endeavor by Mr. Steele but I would have preferred more depth to the characters.

Ethan has been banished by his father, sent to run one of his father’s newest hotels, because he had an affair with one of his father’s managers. Marcus lost everything and everybody in Hurricane Katrina and has vowed to never care for anyone else again, because he cannot bear the pain of losing those he loves. When Ethan hires Marcus to build onto his home, he knows that he must have the sexy Marcus. Can Ethan convince him to tear down the walls surrounding his heart?
After the Storm is a quick, hot, and touching story. Marcus is filled with pain and bitterness and Ethan is determined to break through the barriers around his heart, so that they can have a future together. The plot of this story is good and the passion is searing. I did
not feel that the writing flowed very well and it seemed a bit rushed. Overall, this is a good story if you are looking for a quick heat-up, laced with tender emotions.

Romance at Heart
After the Storm by Jaxx Steele is a story of love, its ups, downs, trials, and its power to heal. Ethan, being punished by his wealthy father for a discrete affair, has been hurt. In a way, he has been treated as poorly by the circumstances as Marcus. Oh Ethan's father was still alive, but he was a cold calculating person who didn't care about Ethan, his feelings, or his life. It was amidst a non-existent scandal that Ethan realized how alone he really was, and the ostracism and banishment could only do so much more damage. He knew where he stood with his family, but the sorrow, the aloneness that surrounded Marcus called to him, made him want to be a friend. Seeing him swimming by moonlight put other thoughts in his head, but either way, Ethan was determined to make at least one friend. Jaxx Steele tells the story in a sensitive way, bringing his lovers together to find the solace they both badly need. After the Storm is a quick read, sexy and sensitive; a book you will want to come back to again and again. Jaxx said it best in his dedication for After the Storm "This story is to remind us all that no matter how bad the storms are in our lives, they always come to an end.", and it is very true. Can Marcus overcome his fear? Can Ethan coax Marcus in to friendship and maybe more? If you want the answers, to those and other questions, head over to Red Rose Publishing and get a copy of After the Storm today. I don't think you will be disappointed.
Yours in good reading,

My first one was After The Storm and i loved the book so much it actually had the most touching scene for me this week. I just wanted to drop you a line to say you have made My Heart Cry, which is a good thing - you have just added another pleased fan to your fan club. Thanks you for such a fabulous book.

BOOK REVIEW:
Ethan Conrad is the son of billionaire hotel magnate Bennett Conrad. He's kept his liaisons discrete, but someone must have reported his affair with another hotel manager. He's been banished to Indiana, where his sexuality won't embarrass his family.
Lonely Ethan develops a crush on Marcus Devereaux, a Katrina refugee with loads of baggage but few belongings, as he lost everyone and everything in the hurricane. Marcus is building an art studio for him, and Ethan admires him from afar, but can't seem to get him to talk to him.
Ethan finally plans a weekend alone in the house with Marcus and works to bring things to a head. The men finally talk to each other. Their attraction is mutual, but Marcus doesn't want to invest in another relationship he might lose, particularly one with his hunky boss.
Can the two men, with the good-natured help of the folks around them, come to an understanding? As Ethan says, "What could you offer a man you has lost everything to make him feel secure again?"
This is a sweet, hot story. The characters of Marcus and Ethan are well developed and the story arc is perfectly suited to a short story. The writing is crisp and professional, and this writer clearly has a strong vision of where his story is going. I like an author who doesn't wander around into unresolved issues. Here, everything is related to the story.
However, I felt a more than a little uncomfortable with Ethan almost forcing an employee into a physical relationship, even though Marcus is obviously attracted.
One such exchange:
"Marcus stood his ground and turned on Ethan. 'What is wrong with you? Why aren't you listening to me? I said I can't do this!'
'Oh, but I bet when you want to do it, you do it really well,' Ethan said with a wink and a laughing grin.
There are several equally pointed exchanges with Marcus clearly saying 'no'. This bothers me because Marcus does nothing to flirt with Ethan, although he's gorgeous and hunky. And in their dialogue it is clear that, while he finds Ethan attractive, he does not want to start a relationship. Ethan doesn't allow him to say 'no'. Sometimes that can be hot, but not here, when he obviously means it. That strikes a non-consent chord for me.
Now, they do get together and the sex is really hot and Marcus does relent and enters vigorously into the relationship. The ending is happy. It's a quick, hot read, as long as you can ignore the nagging feeling that Marcus should have been able to say no, particularly to an employer. Since they end up in a happy place, all is forgiven.

I just wanted to say that I got The Devil made me do it before I won a copy of After the Storm at your chat. I was so happy that I read them both back to back! They were awesome and I can't wait to read the next one he has out! Jaxx writes some of the hottest sex scenes and I think I'm going to have to keep you as one of my favorite authors!
